Aishwarya Rai Indian movie star Aishwarya Rai has been hit with a lawsuit after reportedly undergoing a banned ancient Hindu ceremony in which she was spiritually married to a tree.

The former Miss World, who recently confirmed her engagement to Bollywood superstar Abhishek Bachchan, is alleged to have agreed to the ritual to overcome differences in the couple's astrological charts - disparities which traditional Hindus believe have negative consequences on marriage.

Under this ancient belief, Rai is considered a 'manglik' because her chart bears the planet Mars, and she must be 'married' to a peepal tree, a banana tree or a silver or golden idol of the Hindu god Vishnu in order to overcome the devastating effects being a 'manglik' could have on her impending nuptials.

The 33-year-old now faces a civil lawsuit for practicing the 'untouchability' service, which is associated with the caste system, because such ceremonies are in violation of the Indian constitution and are deemed offensive to women.

The lawsuit was filed in Patna, India by lawyer Shruti Singh, who is calling for Rai and her family to issue a public apology for the 'false marriages'.

The Bachchan family has refused to comment on the allegations.

The Times of India's christening of 2007 as the 'Year of India' and the ensuing six-week long 'India Poised' campaign. Amitabh Bachchan, the Bollywood MegaStar who was voted 'Indian of the Year' in 2005 and again in 2006 in a TOI poll, launched the campaign. The backdrop for the film is the under-construction Bandra-Worli Sealink (like San Franscisco's famous Golden Gate). The sealink which is otherwise a restricted zone.

Recently, John's bottom got pinched by a girl and that too in public! For Bipasha's beau, this was quite an embarrassing act. "I love my fans and I know they always get crazy for me. Not just in India, even abroad I have fans that are passionate about getting autographs and photographs with me. But they have never ever tried to get physically, violent or hurtful to me. But in one of the recent tours when I was in Toronto I was at a loss when a female fan did something unseen before.

While I was walking, on my way I felt something pricking into my back. I immediately turned back and saw a girl smiling at me. She was standing there with her boyfriend.... enjoying what she did," recalls John.

So, how did the hot hunk react? John went up to the girl and sermonized her not to indulge in bottom pinching again in future with anyone, as it doesn't reflect good human values.

Says John, "There have been numerous occasions when I have come across people who are ready to take a cue from my hair cuts or the clothes that I wear or even the way I drive my bike. Sometimes they even come and touch my body just to feel me. They ask about my fitness regime and even vow to follow them. But this was quite unusual to experience."

It’s a double celebration time for music director A R Rehman as he will celebrate his birthday with the pleasure of being selected in Oscar’s short list. Three of his songs have made it to the Oscars short list of 56 songs.

‘Khalabali’ and ‘Lukka Chuppi’ from Rang De Basanti and ‘Chan-Chan’ from Water have been short listed for the 56 songs on the Oscar list. Lagaan’s music, however, has been eluded from the Oscar, something on which Rehman had more hopes.

Rehman will turn 41 in coming January. He shares his birthday with his son, who will turn four on the same day. Rehman feels honored that 3 of his songs have been selected from the 56 songs on the list. He added that the global approach towards Indian films and music has changed.

Also modestly he went on to share the credits with Lata Mangeshkar claiming that she was the reason for Lukka Chuppi getting selected from Rang De Basanti.

Nilesh Sahaya is convinced he has acting in his genes. After all, he is Sanjay Dutt's nephew.

Nilesh is yesteryear actress Zaheeda's son; and can legitimately lay claim to being part of a film family that goes back four generations (from great grandmother Jaddanbai to her daughter Nargis to her niece Zaheeda).

The six-feet tall youngster caught the attention of filmmaker Deepak Shivdasani (Baghi, Gopi Kishen, Julie), and was signed on for a love story, Ek Duje Ke Liye.

Nilesh has always wanted to join films. "Sanju mama is my idol; followed by Sylvestor Stallone," reveals the 23-year-old.

Nilesh learnt acting from Kishore Namit, and underwent a theatre course from Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan.

But he enthusiastically claims: "My real school has been Sanju mama's films, especially Rocky, Vaastav, Hathyar and the Munnabhai movies."

The newcomer seems as excited about his first film, as the director.

Payal Rohatgi experienced a first-time wardrobe malfunction on stage when in Kolkatta recently.

She says on the near disaster, "I was on stage to perform the O Sikandar track from Corporate when I heard this noise that seemed so familiar."

Payal realised in seconds that it was the zipper of her blouse opening at her back.

Not the one to run off, Payal modified her steps and made an exit, only to re-enter after moments ensuring that the zipper was in place and safety pins harnessed the outfit as well.

"It was a near escape," smiles Payal.

Interestingly, the audiences thought it was a part of choregraphy and lauded the exit and re-entry as well.

A case has been filed against Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai and actor Hrithik Roshan for an alleged obscene sequence in their recently released film Dhoom-2.

The case was filed in the court of judicial magistrate first class R K Batham by advocate Shailendra Dwivedi under Sections 292 (vulgarity) and 509 (derogatory to women) of the Indian Penal Code.

The complainant has alleged that women felt offended after watching the scene and it promoted vulgarity in society, especially among the youth.

The court has fixed December 11 for recording evidence in the case.

Tinsel town bombshell Tanushree Dutta has been featured in a sleazy site which says: she is yours for Rs. 30,000 a night.

Is that me on a sleazy site? asks Tanushree

Tanushree Dutta is breathing fire. Her picture — wearing a pink net top over a black bikini and a check mini-skirt — has been posted on one of the escort agency’s websites.

Inconspicuously named www.bombaymodels.org, the site calls her ‘H’ and claims she’s yours for Rs 30,000 a night.

“How disgusting? How can they f**king do this? I’m not a random model whose picture can be downloaded and misused,” she fumes over the telephone from Kolkata. She plans to file a complaint with the Mumbai Cyber Crime Cell.

“I work hard to keep my reputation clean. I’ve conducted myself with integrity. How can anyone do this?” she asks.

The website even lists a number for ‘bookings’. When we dialled the number to ask about Dutta, a male voice answered, “Hum naam waam nahin batate (We don’t divulge names).” But instantly promised, “Sab high class quality rahega (They are all high-class quality).” All he asks for is three to four hours notice.

I could also see faces resembling Actress Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra !!

Just days after the news that Mohit Ahlawat was ousted from Ram Gopal Varma's Sholay remake, comes further news that a replacement has already been found.

Mumbai-based model Raj will fill Mohit's shoes in the film. Quite good for a debutant, considering Raj will play Amitabh Bachchan's Jai in the new film.

So, the casting seems complete, and the film will resume shooting this month.

Will Raj's Jai have great chemistry with Ajay Devgan's Veeru? Lets wait and watch.
