Sophie Choudry is shocked at the mob of 100 fans who barged into her greenroom, manhandling her. Even Patna was better, she says
- Raul Dias, Times News Network

“I am still quite shaken up by what happened!” says an exhausted Sophie Choudry speaking from New Jersey, where she had gone to host a Bollywood music awards show which took place on the 4th of this month. At the show, Sophie says that she was manhandled by a group of fans who stormed into her greenroom backstage, leaving her to face the unruly mob all alone. “This isn’t the way fans behave. There were at least a hundred people of Indian origin in my dressing room,” says Sophie, as she relives what she can only describe as a nightmare. “They were pushing and shoving me and then my mother who heard the commotion came to my aid. To top it all, one
of the people actually had the audacity to say, ‘if you are in showbiz you should learn to put up with all of this or else don’t be in Bollywood’. I have never felt this humiliated before.” Citing an acute lack of security backstage, coupled with the fact that her dressing room was away from the rest of the performers like Michael Bolton and Desperate Housewife actor Nicollette Sheridan, Sophie is quick to point out that the organisers of the show aren’t to blame. “They are equally shocked about the incident as I am and are investigating this lapse in security,” says Sophie, who does however admit that the security the organisers provided was totally inadequate. “I am seriously going to consider hiring a personal bodyguard who will go with me everywhere.” Sophie feels that most performers aren’t aware that even in places like the US, fans can get out of hand. “We think that fans in places like Patna and other small towns can get unruly, but that is so not true,” says Sophie who recently did a show in Patna which she adds went off without a glitch. “I am shocked, surprised and very hurt with the way I was treated in the US!”

The one thing a relationship is not complete without?
Accusations! No matter how hard you try, you will be called moody by your partner at some point.

When you’re seeing someone, how much does he really have to know about your past?
I believe that honesty is the best policy, within reason of course!

And how much do you need to know about his past?
As much as possible, without any gory details.

The one thing you do with your friends...
Go out for movies or just go dancing.

Your best dance moves?
I groove, I grind, I do all my J Lo steps on the dance floor. And yes, I love a good shimmy...and I love to shake my booty! There I said it, happy?

What’s romantic according to you?
Anything that’s not been put together because it looks romantic, so all these candle- light dinners and walks on the beach are out. If it’s a thoughtful gesture, it’s romantic.

And the most dishonest thing you’ve done in love?
Prepared a candle-light dinner! Can I change my last answer?!

The one thing men do more than women, but don’t admit to?
Bitch! They gossip way more than us women.

Sophie or Sophiya?
You know, Sophie is what most of my friends and family call me. The only time my mum calls me Sophiya is when she’s mad at me.

The naughtiest thing you’ve done as a child?
I hammered someone’s really expensive car and I started peeling off the polish in a pattern. I thought I was an artist. I realised I wasn’t once I was grounded!

Would you ever pick up a guy?
If he was shorter and lighter than me. Otherwise, never! There was this line someone used on me at an airport recently. He said ‘Are you carrying any weapons besides your eyes?’ and I was most amused. All this in a French-Arabic accent and my mum by my side!
